Girl Meets Wine
Updated: May 7, 2020
My life changed forever in 2009, the day I attended my first wine class. That experience was a huge “a-ha” moment and the wine light switch turned on for good. From that moment, I consumed all the wine books I could and dutifully attended weekly tastings at my local wine shop. I was immediately obsessed with wine.
I landed an internship position with the Sommelier Intensive at the International Culinary Center and was given the gift of learning from several Master Sommeliers. It was an incredible experience and in August 2012, I was certified by the Court of Master Sommeliers. But my career took me on a different path, focusing on event production and event marketing. Wine was always in the background, but never front and center of my professional life.
I’ve recently been given the gift of time, thanks to COVID-19, and have been able to reconnect with my love of wine. From my first gig in an Italian wine shop to hosting wine-focused dinners, I love engaging people with wine in familiar, unpretentious settings.
Living in a small apartment (love city life!), my husband and I don’t have a ton of space for wine storage, let alone my handbags. My 12 bottle wine fridge works hard!
I’m a master of takeout more than a chef, I’ve never met a white burgundy that I haven’t liked; and my approach to shopping for wine is similar to fashion—it’s a veritable mix of high and low.
Wine is a lot of fun but it’s hella intimidating. As a challenge to myself, I’m attempting to review and write about wine every day, for the next 90-ish days while I’m furloughed. The posts will be a mix of reviews and, hopefully, useful information to wine lovers.
Thank you for joining me on this journey.
